Lenovo outs new Windows 8.1 ThinkPad 10 tablet on Australian site

Lenovo has been busy recently with launches of small Windows 8.1 tablets, such as the Miix 2 8 and the ThinkPad 8, but now it looks like the company is going to offer a larger tablet with Microsoft's latest PC operating system. The tablet, the ThinkPad 10, was outed this weekend on Lenovo's Australian website but was quickly removed.

However, TabTech managed to grab the information and images from the site before it was taken down. Based on their report, the Lenovo ThinkPad 10 will have a 10.1 inch IPS display with a 1920x1200 resolution. Inside there will be an 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z3795 quad-core processor, support for either 2 or 4GB of RAM and SSD storage options of 64 and 128GB.

One interesting thing is that while the first version of the ThinkPad 10 will have the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1, Lenovo will release future versions that will have the 64-bit version of the OS. Other hardware features include a eight megapixel rear camera and a two megapixel front facing camera. The battery is supposed to last up to 10 hours. Like the ThinkPad 8, the ThinkPad 10 will support its own QuickShot Cover that will allow users to quickly peel off part of the covering to expose the tablet's rear camera.

Unfortunately, we don't don't know the price or a release date for the ThinkPad 10 but if it was leaked on one of the company's official websites, we suspect it won't be long before it's available to purchase.

Lenovo reveals ThinkPad 8 Windows 8.1 tablet

In October, Lenovo started selling the Miix2 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet to consumers as one of the first such smaller tablets made for Microsoft's operating system. Today, the PC maker announced plans to release a similarly sized tablet made for demanding business users; the ThinkPad 8.

The 8.3 inch tablet will weigh 0.92 pounds and will have Intel's quad-core Z3700 Bay Trail processor inside with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz. It will support up to 8GB of RAM and storage options of 32, 64 and 128GB. The display will support a resolution of up to 1920x1080. The tablet will also have a MicroSD card port, a MicroUSB 3.0 port and a MicroHDMI port.

The ThinkPad 8 will have an eight megapixel rear camera and a two megapixel front facing camera. There's also an option to buy a version with 4G LTE wireless support in addition to Wi-Fi. The tablet is supposed to offer up to eight hours of battery life and will include a free version of Microsoft Office 2013.

Lenovo will offer a keyboard dock option for the ThinkPad 8, along with an optional QuickShot Cover that will allow users to quickly peel off part of the covering to expose the tablet's rear camera. The ThinkPad 8 will go on sale late in January for the starting price of $399.

Lenovo officially announces Miix2 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet

Way back in June, Microsoft showed off an upcoming 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet from Lenovo as part of its Computex keynote. However, Lenovo itself made no such announcement about that product. Today, that finally changed, as the company officially revealed the Miix 2 tablet.

The tablet will have Intel's Bay Trail-T Quad Core processor inside and the screen will have a 1280x800 resolution. The Miix2 will have 2 GB of RAM and a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded with the microSD slot. The tablet's weight is .77 pounds and Lenovo claims it will have up to seven hours of battery life. The Miix2 also has two cameras, a 5 megapixel rear lens and a 2 megapixel front facing camera.

In addition to Windows 8.1, Lenovo is throwing in a free pre-installed copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 with every Miix2. Buyers can also get a stylus as an option for the Miix2, along with a cover that can double as a stand for the tablet; the price for getting both options is $20.

Lenovo will start selling the Miix2 later in October for the price of $299 for the 32GB version and $349 for the 64GB unit.

Lenovo 8-inch Mix 8 Windows 8 tablet confirmed

It looks like we can expect quite a few smaller Windows 8 tablets to be released over the coming months. So far, Acer has confirmed it will launch the 8-inch Iconia W3 product at the end of June for $379. Also, a reference design for a 7-inch tablet was spotted at Computex 2013.

Now Win8China has posted a number of photos taken from Microsoft's Computex 2013 trade show keynote address. The pictures near the bottom of the gallery clearly show a person holding up what appears to be an 8-inch tablet with the Lenovo brand name on the back. In a transcript of the keynote address on Microsoft's website, the tablet is called the Mix 8 by Microsoft team member Leigha Anderson.

This confirms that Lenovo will join Acer in launching a smaller Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 tablet. Anderson said the Mix 8 would be thin, have 3G wireless support and come with folio and pen. There's no word on what chip it will have inside but we suspect it will have some version of Intel's Atom processor, either the current Clover Trail design or the upcoming Bay Trail chip.

This will almost certainly be just the start of several reveals by PC OEMs about their own 7 or 8-inch Windows 8 tablets over the next several weeks and months. It will be interesting to see how all these tablets will stack up in terms of hardware, features and most importantly on price.
